yeah i wouldn't take it to the dry cleaners as they can ruin leather at times take it to a leather specialist. As it depends what type of leather it is and whats made it all gruppy...I had a very soft whitle supple leather jacket and I used white shoe polish and and cloth to get rid of my marks but i guess they do cream. but if it was expensive i'd ask a leather specialist first.
I had cream leather sofas and neices and nephews to boot, that didnt mix well and the result was grubby looking leather, the most inexpensive way to clean your bag without taking it to the cleaners is to buy leather sofa wipes, its just like baby wipes but for sofas, it will work exactly the same on your bag, and the sofas cleaned up a treat.
a shoe mender, they do leather shoes but alo will mend and do other items too, they would know whats best to use
I read in the sunday paper that a fashion designer cleans her handbag with Pledge polish. Not sure if it works but worth a go!

depends on what you grubbied it up with. call a leather shop and tell them what happened to it.
take it to the drycleaners..they will clean it like leather.....(they then send it out to a reputable leather -cleaner)
