How do you resist from eating tons of chocolate and ice cream at a time.?

So at times I find myself staring at the empty bottom of a bucket of ice cream, and other times I'm looking at a sea of candy wrappers all around me. So, I decided that needs to stop and I got to learn some self-control. Anyone have any tips? Is it flat out will power? How do you resist from eating tons of chocolate and ice cream at a time.?
Just buy pints of ice cream - better yet, switch to frozen yogurt or sorbets. I finished a pint of frozen yogurt last night too:) But, I only had a salad for dinner about 5 hours earlier:) I also like to buy the containers of frozen lemonade; if you finish those, they're not that big:) .... My husband will finish off a lb. of chocolate at one time, but I seem to be able to eat just a piece or 2 each night, and then put it away....How do you resist from eating tons of chocolate and ice cream at a time.?
Think of all that nasty fat thats going into your body, or just substitute healthier things..
You do have to be determined to keep from overeating, but there are ways that may help. Chewing gum might work, because it will keep your jaws busy. Also, you should try eating in smaller portions. For example, if you normally just get a spoon and start eating ice-cream out of the carton, try scooping a little bit into a bowl and eating it slowly, putting your spoon down after every bite. This way, your body will think twice before going to get more. In addition, drinking liquids like water will make your stomach feel fuller and may stop your craving.
try smoking.
I don't eat many sweets just because I don't care for them. I'd suggest taking a lighter route like frozen yogurt and smaller packaging.
You have an addiction. You have to treat it as such. Try to figure out why you want to hurt yourself, because eating like that isn't good for you...But you already know that.
1) Don't buy the stuff.

2) Buy small cartons of the stuff as it is built in portion control.
I do something else to get my mind off of it.

It is hard
